Bamboo

Bamboos are a group of woody perennial evergreen plants that belong to the grass family Poaceae. It is one of the fastest-growing plants in the world. In one growing season, bamboo can reach its maximum height. Furthermore, the hardening process of the culms only takes 4 years. Its stem structure resembles a notched pipe with long straight fiber parallel to the rod. Hence, bamboo has a flexible and high tensile strength. Bamboo is a plant that does not require special maintenance. Although harvested regularly, bamboo almost does not require replanting as its shoots will grow from the roots left in the ground. Bamboo has many benefits to the ecosystem, such as fertilizing soil, retaining landslides and water preservation. It absorbs carbon dioxide and releases oxygen into the atmosphere higher than many other trees. In the village, bamboo is a material that has a long history and a wide range of uses. It was and still used as agricultural equipment, home appliances as well as construction. Its characteristic of flexible yet strong, with short harvesting age, makes bamboo suitable as the sustainable material of the future.
